St Louis Renaissance Faire

Thu May 21, 2009, 6:40 AM
  • Mood: Thrilled
Two words: Freaking Awesome.

Let's start from the beginning.
Rental Car: Priceline = Named price for $10, Alamo accepted for $12 a day, full size car. Dodge Charger. SWEET ASS CAR. It was between that an Altima or a Camry.

6 hour 30 minute drive:
Amy threw her arm out the window every time we passed a rig trying to get it to honk. Tally 26 Honks. Near the end of our drive we approached a massive bucket dumping storm. I missed the actual exit TWICE, however driving over the median seemed to work in both situations with limited screaming involved.

The Stay:
Race Horse Breeding Farm....need I say more? We played with the newborn colt and watched an extremely pregnant horse get kicked from the inside. That looked like pain, getting a hoof to the rib. Sairah, her husband and her mother all work the Faire. Mum works as a dyer fuller in the German Town area and makes wonderful colors by boiling food. Purple Cabbage makes a light blue, onion peels make golden orange, Hazelnuts make a nice tan, dandelions make a soft green. Amy and I had a great time hanging out in German town with the cast members, Tyler and Dan, or shall I say Landsknecht Fletcher and Baron Friederich von Falkenstien. They are quite a hoot. I shall always remember the battle cry of BOHICA! (Bend over, here it comes again)
Durra [link] an a Gyzer [link] are naughty little faes who live in the fae forrest and tie peoples shoes together and terrorize dogs. They talk funny too. "Gyzer try a steala Durra a snake... but Durra no a give up a lunch dat a easy... Durra distrak a Gyzer from a lunch by kinckin' im inna jimmy.

Durra win."

The name joke is Durra Cell and Ener Gyzer. I've yet to see Gyzer in action, for which I'm looking forward to in the future, but Durra is a very fun character. When she puts the little snake on her finger and it hangs there limply, she says that the snake has EREPTILE dysfunction. Then she comments on the glitter brained fairies saying that if her wings were erect for more than 4 hours, she would see a doctor. Durra a no like veeagra wings.

There is SO much more that went on during the trip, but I'll try to sum it up.
Adam Crack - Fire whip, must see
Limey Birds - Dirty Birds, love the girls that sing.
3 pints gone - Scots in Kilts singing songs
Squire of the wire - tight rope walking, kilt wearing funny guy.
Wit o' Will - Shakespeare in 20 minutes or less. Macbeth and Hamlet.

This is my second Ren Fair I've been to, the first one being the Ohio Ren Fair, and I must say, I like the atmosphere of the St. Louis fair a lot better. While the food might not be as great as it is in Ohio, the cheaper prices in St. Louis more than make up for it.

If you're in the area of St.Louis or within a reasonable driving distance, it's a GREAT weekend trip. I only spent 120 dollars, add a hotel for maybe 100 for 2-3 days and it's a REALLY CHEAP vacation.

Ren fair goes on until June 17th, so get there!

Last Wed. My friends asked my if I wanted to go to the St. Louis Ren Faire. It's only a 6 hour drive from where I live. Thursday we planned it, yesterday I rented a car, and we leave Friday, come back monday. ROAD TRIP!

One of the girls works there with her mother as a crazy fairy. Her little accent is a mix between the little lady at the Chinese food place and Jar Jar Binks. We're staying with her for the weekend.

Today we're going to raid our Theater's costume collection and pull some stuff out to wear. I just have to convince the Shop manager to let us borrow them for a weekend. I'd try to show some boob, but I'd be barking up the wrong tree.

So, still working on the room. The building and painting bit never got done yesterday, but a lot of total house cleaning did, which reminds me, LAUNDRY...I despise laundry.

Yeah. It seems that each fair represents a different country. I mean, they can double up and everything. But the Ohio Renaissance festival is English. So we all put on our "'ale to the Qweeeen Of England! Das a good bit a sportitis"

The one I'm going to is a French Ren Fair. All I know in french is when the Chef tries to cook Sebastian in the little mermaid. oui oui! Maybe I'll study the candlestick from Beauty and the best for a while. *shrug* I'm way out of my comfort zone, but me and my friend are making our on costumes. We started yesterday, and are continuing in about a half hour, so it should be fun.

Measurements I need:

1.UnderBust, ie: Bra size
2.base of Neck (Where the little neck hump is) to natural waist (Point where you bed from side to side)in back
3.Shoulder blade to shoulder blade
4. Depending on the length you want it, under bust to thigh/knee/ankle (Also, if you want little bloomers to go under the dress, measure the largest part of your baby bump currently, and I'll add extra for growing room)
5. And just to be safe, under bust to where your baby bump begins.
6. Color choices! I can dye fabrics to whatever color you want. If there is a fabric you can't stand such as velvets or felts let me know, and any patterns you despise, like for me I hate floral patterns.

The basic design is this: [link] She's being modest in this picture, usually her twins are up and out and she had the over skirt tucked up into the underskirt which made it look really cool.

If I can find my camera I'll take a picture of the one I made. It's gold, black and teal. It took me two days from dyeing, cutting, trimming and completing.
