Kyoraku and Katen FINAL by Cherieosaurus Kyoraku and Katen FINAL by Cherieosaurus
Base: [link]

Done on Microsoft Paint: 3 days, 30 hours at the very least.
Critique always welcome.

Kyoraku is the dude for those of you who don't know and the women, Katen, are flesh forms of his twin katanas.

Inspired by this paraphrased excerpt from the BLEACH manga by Tite Kubo.

Manga Chapter 374 pg 5-7:

"Katen Kyoukotsu can be rather fickle when she wants to be. She has the ability to turn childhood games into reality. She establishes the rules. Anyone who falls within the radius of her spiritual power must comply with said rules. That, of course, includes me. Often times, I feel like nothing more than a puppet dangling on strings....but when you wield a blade that kicks copious amounts of ass, you learn to deal with it."

In this part of the series, the enemy calls out a color and that is the only color Katen will cut, of course it will also cut her wielder when he swings his sword.

::::::EDIT::::::

Wow, thanks so much for the DD. I'm truly humbled by all the favorites and comments and I'll try to get back to all of you. Also, since many of you are a fan of the Cherry Tree [link] feel free to use it.

Thanks again so much for all who nominated this piece and featured it, to Tite Kubo, for making a wonderful story line full of wonderful characters....and of course, I have to thank the Academy. LOOK MA AND PA, Your accident is doin' ya proud!

It's easy to see why Kyoraku and Katen FINAL by ~Cherieosaurus was suggested to me by a number of deviants. The cherry tree alone shows a high amount of skill and dedication, and the characters are very well depicted. A must for any 'Bleach' fans. ( Featured by FionaCreates )

This is amazing. I love it! What I find truly amazing is that you did this on Microsoft Paint! Wow. That certainly takes some skills to paint something with a program like that. I never thought it was possible lol.

Awesome pic, I love Kyoraku's expression, you so perfectly nailed it :D. Great poses and composition too, the tree fits in beautifully. It's somewhat scary it's actually possible to make gorgeous things like this in Paint though :wow: That DD was definitely deserved

I know right? Don't hate the playah' Hate the game.

In the immortal words of Salt n Peppa:

Opinions are like assholes and everybody's got one.

I'm just asking that those who have legitimate concerns about the unworthiness of the DD to at least critique and tell me why so that I might improve. *shrug*

Oh, in photoshop and illustrator I can push buttons and make absolutely nothing happen. It's frustratingly and beautifully blank.

Me and Paint = Happy face

Me and PSP = o.O

If you know of any tutorials that can get me started, I'm on board. I've wanted to learn that stuff for years but haven't found anything that spells it out like an MSP user needs it to be.

Thanks so much for the comment.

Sweetness.

Is photoshop different from Paint Shop Pro? I only have the JASC software currently, unless you can get a free DL of photoshop somewhere that last more than 90 days.

The only thing that does not qualify this as a DD is use of filler characters.

But I digress, it is very beautiful. MS Paint you say? Wow, I really should have practiced with that a little more, maybe I could have actually produced something half as decent as this. XD Very nicely done, don't you believe for a second that this does not deserve a DD. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll just go back to staring at those amazing folds in their clothes....

HA Thanks so much!

But you know, as far as filler arcs go, that one was pretty Bad ass. If you gotta fill a doughnut, which is amazing on it's own, with something, you better make it something creamy and delicious.

Er, that could be taken wrong. What evs. lol NO DOGGY DOUGHNUTS! *retch*

I mean, having part of your soul try to kick the living crap out of you, that's fierce.

MSPaint, it's easier to use than PSP and GIMP....both of which baffle me. I want to learn PSP so bad.

Now I digress. THANKS AGAIN.

MSP is all I know how to use. If I could do some PSP stuff....jeeze, I'd never leave my computer. But alas, I'm technologically challenged. Wow, and I just spelled technologically correct TWICE without the use of spell check. THAT deserves an award.

Thanks so much.

I used a laser mouse that is quite fond of doing whatever it wishes. Example, you try to make a box and as you're pulling diagonal to get the appropriate size box, instead, you get 24 boxes within boxes.

Before this, I used a laptop touchpad. THAT I miss. You have much more control with your index finger than a laser which has a tendency to bounce light off of lent on your computer desk. It was all kinds of frustration.

I'm working with GIMP and PSP now in order to force myself to learn it, but so far all I have down is layers and how to change the opacity on them. Cleaning up lines and adding color in the spots you want...not a clue. You use the paint bucket in MSP, the paint goes where you want it. You use it in these programs and your entire piece is filled. Not a fan.

Ah, haha. Make sure you use a non-reflective surface (black soft mousepad works well for optical mice.) LOL

Gotcha. I'd love to get tablet myself. :)

Ah, nice. I use GIMP. Ah, haha... I understand. It takes time to learn how to use them - for quick fun, try changing the colors with RGB Curves. :D

MSPaint wasn't the torture, it was the laser mouse that skidded across the screen instead of gracefully flowing from one piece to another. I miss my laptop touch pad.

Thank you so much for the comment.

I don't see why some people are saying this doesn't deserve a DD...
It's very beautiful, nicely detailed and shaded.
It takes a good amount of skill to make stuff like this on MS Paint, especially the tree there in the background C:

The tree was actually the easiest part. It probably took around an hour. I've made it free for all to use here [link] since people do enjoy it so much.

I don't have a problem with people saying it doesn't deserve a DD, but my question is WHY doesn't it deserve one? An artist can't get any better if honest critique is never given. I mean, what is a DD? A pat on the back really. A Good job, keep it up!

It's not like I won an Academy award for best Cinematography when the piece was 95% CG. *cough* Avatar *cough*

I thank you so much for you comment and pointing out the pieces of the work which you enjoyed visually.:heart::heart:

Wait a minute.... Microsoft paint as in Paint, as in the dinky little program that comes already installed on your computer? There is NO way *this* was done with PAINT! No WAY! But if so... *faints* I wish I could make Paint actually do what I want, since it's the only program I have at my disposal. T_T
Please clear this up otherwise I'm going to be really really freaked out by your ablities n_n' :P

That's the one. MS Paint. I have Psp and Gimp, but they are merely desktop decoration since I have no idea how to use them. I started out using my laptop touch pad, which I miss, because this laser mouse is crap.

Thanks so much for the comment.

Well then... it seems I have some fainting to do. So... is there some sort of technique you use or... or something? Because I don't see how you could make something so detailed with paint. Unless you're individually filling in pixels, which I have done, but don a considerable smaller project. So, what's your secret? Please tell me! T_T

:iconcherieosaurus:
Cherieosaurus Featured By Owner Mar 9, 2010  Professional General Artist
Technique? I've been doing it since '03 and learning a lot from other artists. I mean, [link] that piece which I spent 9 months on, the technique was all doing it bit by bit and not getting overwhelmed. Also, my laptop touchpad helped a lot.

This one, I did by colors. I tackled black and white last and followed it up with the piece I still don't like, his pink kimono. Of course I'm very anti pink with Red. I have a work in progress of Uliquorra and Orihime if that might give you some insight to my process.

I don't really have any trade secrets other than don't fear the MSP. It's really a jewel if you can bend it to your will. I'm still learning, but I'll get there eventually.

Hmm, well thanks for clearing that up. And thanks for the inspiration. I think I've done nothing but complain about my crappy Paint program but maybe I should sit down and play with it a little bit and see what I can come up with. I'll check out that link. I hope I can learn how to use the program better. So yeah, thanks ^.^
